Youth Workers Need an Unofficial Hideout

youth-pastor-toolboxLet’s face it: no youth worker wants to be trapped in an office. A youth pastor’s office is normally a vortex of permission slips, dodgeballs, and a growing pile of summer camp t-shirts. Just the thought of being confined in an office, dealing with administrative nonsense, can make a youth worker sick. But what happens when you need to get work done? Where do you go to do sermon prep, meet people, and dream big dreams for the future of your ministry?

My unofficial hideout is the nearby Starbucks. Only 10 minutes from my ministry, it is a place where I can focus on the task ahead. It is a place where I feel comfortable, inspired, and relaxed. Away from the office phone and email, my only distraction is my cell phone. In fact right now I am there, sitting in my favorite seat by the window. Once I am finished with this post, I will be putting the finishing touches on my chapel sermon for the local Christian School.

Where is your unofficial hideout?

The series Youth Pastor Toolbox discusses tools of the trade for youth ministry. A new “Youth Pastor Toolbox” will be posted every Tuesday.
