Pool Noodles

Because of living at the beach, my students and I are used to games others may not be familiar with. One such summer toy is a pool noodle (or a water log). A long, slender tube of foam, these noodles must have been designed with a teen in mind, with a youth pastor with pent-up frustration in mind. They are light enough to swing pretty hard, and they make a horrible sound when hitting a person, yet they are painless.
Noodle Game Variations
- Hockey. The noodles are flimsy enough to make this pretty entertaining. Plus, students can be more physical with the noodles than with wooden sticks.
- Whiffleball. Just like hockey, the flimsy nature of the noodle allows for difficulty and hilarity during this game.
- Old Fashion Rumble. Give your Sr. High or Jr. High boys a bunch of noodles and watch them fight light crazy.
The great thing about pool noodles is how easy and inexpensive they are. For a group with a limited budget, this is a painless (figuratively) activity.
The series “Youth Pastor Toolbox” discusses tools of the trade for youth ministry. A new “Youth Pastor Toolbox” will be posted every Tuesday.
