Monday, April 28th, 2008This weekend I finished Velvet Elvis, the widely popular debut book by Rob Bell (of Nooma and Mars Hill fame). I must preface this review by saying that I have always enjoyed Bell’s Nooma videos, having used them in school, youth group, and church. I have been impacted by these movies personally, and [...]
Modern Day Textual Criticism
Saturday, April 26th, 2008Today I read an interview with Daniel Wallace, a prof at DTS and Director of the Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts. The mission of the CSNTM is to digitally photograph and document manuscripts of the New Testament. These fragile artifacts, some of which are over 1000 years old, are too [...]

Friday, April 25th, 2008The crew over at Simply Youth Ministry is doing a live podcast today (4/25) at Noon PST (3pm for normal people who live on the East Coast). I am so happy that they changed the day of the podcast from Thursday to Friday just for me. If you have not experienced this show, [...]
Logos Bible Software: A Review
Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008Last week I gave in and purchased Scholar’s Library: Gold from Logos Bible Software. What a great purchase it was! I am loving it!! I use it every single day, and it greatly aided me in writing a recent paper for Grad School. Although I am still a novice when it comes [...]
Supporting the Community
Monday, April 21st, 2008At the OC Tabernacle we were rather busy this weekend. The Ocean City Music Pier (a large concert venue on the Boardwalk) is undergoing structural renovations, so all their events for the month of April have been moved to our facility. This weekend it was a local teen scholarship pageant. While not an [...]
Deadliest Catch and Youth Ministry
Wednesday, April 16th, 2008Today I have been watching the new episodes of Deadliest Catch. This show, which documents the rough, sometimes deadly, job of king crab fishermen in Alaska, is the best documentary show on television. These men risk life and limb for 3 weeks on the high seas in order to make anywhere between $20-40,000 [...]
Chris Taylor CD out now!
Tuesday, April 15th, 2008Last month the Ocean City Tabernacle hosted the Kutless Acoustic tour. The opening act for the tour was Chris Taylor, an awesome guy from Florida. I had the privilege of meeting him and getting a chance to talk about Ocean City and about the tour. He is a very sincere guy and one [...]
Divine Punishment = Emo
Monday, April 14th, 2008Last week, I was teaching my Jr. High students about the Fall (Genesis 3), when I had an interesting interaction with a student. It went something like this:
Me: “And how did God punish the man (Adam) for his sin?”
Student: “God turned him emo”
Great stuff, but it was not the answer I was looking for.
Flexible in Ministry
Sunday, April 13th, 2008Sorry for the recent lack of posts: my schedule has been rather hectic. This weekend, the Tabernacle hosted a Women’s Conference. Over 240 women came on Friday night and Saturday for this conference, the first we have held. Gloria Gaither was the speaker, and her daughter Amy Gaither Hayes did the music. [...]
Shout to the Lord: AI Edition
Thursday, April 10th, 2008Apparently this is the talk of the Christian world today: American Idol contestants singing “Shout to the Lord” last night. Since I have not watched the show since Sanjaya was unjustly kicked off last season, I did not see it live. My mom missed it as well, thanks to the DVR stopping 2 minutes [...]
